Stone tiles

The number of pedestals required for a job depends on the following factors:

  • The total number of tiles used
  • The size and weight of the tiles - larger or heavier tiles may required an additional central pedestal per tile
  • The shape of the area to be tiled - the more irregular shaped the area the more pedestals you are likely to require

As a guide, the following formula can be used:

  1. Include one pedestal for every tile
  2. Count the number of tiles around the perimeter of the tiled area and divide this number by two.
  3. Add the number of pedestals calculated in step 1. to the number calculated in step 2.
  4. Add 5% to the total number of pedestals calculated in step 3.

Sample GridConsider the sample regular shaped area drawn on the right.

  1. Number of required tiles = 50
  2. Total number of perimeter tiles divided by 2: 26 divided by 2 = 13
  3. 50 + 13 = 63
  4. 5% of 63 rounded up to the nearest whole number
  5. Estimated number of pedestals required is 63+4= 67

Actual number of pedestals required is 66.
